The railcars were used for passenger transport on main and branch lines, mainly on flat routes, and were given various nicknames over time, such as Akkublitz, Säurebomber, Steckdosen-InterCity, Taschenlampen-Express or Biene Maja. The trainset offers 59-86 seats in the power car (ETA 150 / BR 515) and 81-100 seats in the control car (ESA 150 / BR 815).
