Rail cleaning car with 10 polishing pads
When a Märklin dealer organized a digital information day in 2013, he could order these cars from Märklin for the participants as a memory of the course.
The operation of the cleaning system is actually very simple. Under the wagon is a metal plate in which two felt rods are clamped. These rods wipe over the rails while driving and thus clean the rails again. To allow the felt rods to easily slide over switches and slopes, the metal holder is not only movable in height but can also move slightly at an angle.
Cleaning the rails works quite well with this wagon. The weight of the holder presses the bars firmly against the rails. This does mean that the wagon has considerable resistance and therefore does not roll easily over the rails. It is therefore important not to place a locomotive that is too light in front of the car. It is always striking how much mess ends up on the felt pads after the wagon has driven a few laps. The wagon has no trouble with switches as long as it is pulled over them. But if the car is pushed over a switch, it can sometimes get stuck there. |
