Description
Tank Locomotive. Klöckner-Werke AG switch engine, road number 5, used for switching work on the property of this firms mine. Former German Federal Railroad (DB) road number 80 014. The locomotive looks as it did around 1970. The tank locomotive of the Baureihe 80 was built for the Deutsche Reichsbahn as a shunting locomotive. At larger stations they replaced the old Länderbahn locomotives used for shunting work, which were often no longer powerful enough due to their age. 39 examples (80 001 to 80 039) were built in 1927 and 1928 at the Jung locomotive factories in Jungenthal, Union in Königsberg, Wolfen Hohenzollern. The aim of developing the Baureihe 80 was to build a relatively simple and economical locomotive in order to reduce shunting costs. The locomotives have an empty weight of 44.3 tons and a maximum speed of 45 km/h. In 1945 after the end of the Second World War, 21 locomotives remained with the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) and 17 with the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB). The DR locomotives were stationed in Leipzig in 1962/1963. The last 3 locomotives of the BR80 were taken out of service at the DB in 1965.
