Prototype information:
The locomotive series 1200 of the NS originated from a design by Baldwin and Westinghouse (USA). The locomotives were built by Werkspoor in Amsterdam with parts supplied from America. In 1949 25 locomotives were ordered. Delivery of the locomotives started in 1952 and the last was delivered in 1953. The 1201 to 1214 were delivered in the turquoise color and the 1215 to 1225 in red-brown. From 1954 the locomotives were repainted in Berlin blue and from the 1970s in the new house style color yellow/grey. After undergoing a major overhaul over the years, the last 1200 went out of service with the NS in 1998. The company ACTS then took over five locomotives. |
