In July 1995, the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) ordered the construction of a new locomotive for intercity traffic. The locomotives had to succeed the class 103, class 112 and class 120. Ultimately, this resulted in the order for 145 locomotives of the class 101, which reached a top speed of 220 km/h. The BR 101 was built by the manufacturer ADtranz. In July 1996 the first locomotive was delivered and put into use. The construction 101 of the Deutsche Bahn AG is intended for both passenger and freight transport. Only environmentally friendly coolants and paints are used for these locomotives and the braking energy is fed back into the power grid. |
